Do something unexpected!
Do you know about these Orlando tourist attractions? We've found a few unusual, unexpected and unique attractions. They are worth giving a try...and some are free.
The
Marching of the Peabody Ducks
is definitely an unusual Orlando tourist attraction.
A bit of back ground...
...back in the 1930's in Memphis, TN the general manager of the Peabody Hotel and his buddy returned from a hunting trip and jokingly placed three of their live decoy ducks into the fountain at the hotel. (We're pretty sure this was after a few glasses of that famous Tennessee whiskey).
To their surprise, the guest loved it, and a tradition began.
Now, 75 years later you don't have to go to Tenessee to see the famous Marching of the Peabody Ducks, you can see them at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando.
Each day four ducks are escorted from their $100,000 penthouse suite to a special elevator. Upon arriving at the lobby level the ducks walk down the red carpet to the lobby fountain. The decked out 'Duck Master' accompanies them.
Seems silly but is a big hit. If you'd like to take part in this tradition make sure to arrive early as the lobby can get crowded. Free shows are daily at 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Experience your car coasting uphill (while in neutral) at
Spook Hill
in nearby Lake Wales.
The sign above is posted on the side of the road at Spook Hill and explains the legend. Take a drive and see if this legend is true.
Is the Chief is still protecting his land or is the gator getting revenge?
Being a metro Detroit native, when we think of cars we think of Detroit so this was an unexpected find for us.
The Exotic Car Gallery
is a private collection of rare automobiles; ten are on display at all times. This attraction also offers a personal racing simulator.
For most of us, this will be the closest we get to a Maserati, Ferrari Enzo, Spyker Laviolette and more.
